But someone needs to post this. "track-specific local firefighters, EMTs and paramedics could be used in lieu of a full traveling rapid response unit in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and its various development series next year."

Seriously, fuck NASCAR. We've had four major racing related deaths over the past year, and Jim France is going ahead and pulling this shit?!?!?! We're seriously downgrading safely, and of all the ways of doing so we're doing it in the stupidest fucking way possible?!?!!??! I'm speechless. First giving the series a spec tire, then making DPs more expensive then P2s, and now this. Not saying it's all gloom and doom, but fucking really!!!!?!??!?!?! Fuck you Jim France, fuck you.

Yeah, I can't believe this BS. Maybe DPs could skirt by with local crews before, but now they're making those faster to be more in line with the P2s, so axing the dedicated response staff is just a BAD idea.

There's a lot of good local talent, but they need to be sure that first responders know how to deal with racecar accidents, dang it. This is a HUGE step backwards in a not cool, wholly unsafe way.

I disagree. From your post I can see that you do not understand the training that crews go through in order to be allowed to work a race weekend. Training includes driver extractions, fuel fires, cutting roll cages, rolling cars over, and a couple other things I'm forgetting.

Also, all high-level tracks have fire crew personnel who work year-round and coordinate training and those coming in for events. Look into getting on a fire crew at any high-level facility, it will start to make more sense.

Before you ask, yes I do work at a racing facility. Trust me on this one.

Oh, I understand the training involved and by no means do I intend any kind of slam against any of the local crews—I have several friends who work on the local staff for events. Even at the club racing level, the training to do anything remotely involving a racetrack disaster is pretty intense.

That being said, I still think having a dedicated, on-hand, knows-the-series-and-its-drivers-absurdly-well rapid response crew is a safer bet than having the first response team change from race to race. Someone who travels with the whole party is more likely to get to know specific health needs of the drivers involved as opposed to well-meaning crew who cover the schedule one weekend out of a year.

This is a clear step backwards.
